Kapahaka

How many schools were there? I have no idea. But it was so fun peforming infront of those hundreds of people. On Wednesday, our kapahaka group went and peformed at the kapahaka fun day. We sang 6 really fun songs.

Our outfits were cool, the girls had a short black dress with a green koru on the side. The boys had a long black sash with a green stripe on it. It must have been really effective. We were told to wear green stone necklaces, or bone carving necklaces.

All through the day, Whaea Tania asked Maori quiz questions, and taught us new phrases like "rare rakau" which means "lollipop"

It was really cool peforming for other schools, as well as seeing their pefromances, learning heaps and coming together as one.

On Friday 23 October, Mahana School went to do a performance at red square, Nelson. We sang songs and danced for half an hour until it was time for Nelson Intermediate to go on stage. Some of the songs we did were: Utaina, Kua Rongo, He Honore, and one of the school favorites, An Australian Went Hiking. We really enjoyed performing for everyone who saw us!!!

Jack's Awesome Animation

Check out my great work.

CLUBS

At Mahana School we have been doing Clubs after lunch on Tuesdays. The 7 clubs are animation, outdoors, music, science, cycling, sewing and mosaics. Parents come in to help lead the clubs and their help is much appreciated.

Pako and I are doing animation and we think it is really fun because it's cool how it tricks your eye into thinking that the character in the pictures are actually moving.

Here we are hunting out monotis richmondiana.
BubbleShare: Share photos - Find great Clip Art Images.

Monday 28th July was no ordinary day at school, unless seeing things from millions of years ago is normal.
Yesterday Mahana School went to see real fossils and bones and amazing things from the Triassic and the Jurassic time. We were split into two groups. Group 1 went to the museum first while Group 2 went on a walk in the Richmond hills (In the Triassic time it was actually the sea bed and saw lots of Fossils. At lunch we went to a Park in stoke where we had a breath of fresh air before swapping our activities. At the museum we learnt about the size of dinosaurs and how one shark-like dinosaur was around 14 metres long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The day was like walking back in time, we had so much fun.

Hi!
These holidays, Me and my Family spent some quality time away at Paturau.
We stayed on a 2000 acre  farm owned by a guy called Harry, and we went for lots of walks to explore the place.
On one of the walks we went on, these are the things we found: A goat cave, a water fall amazing rock formations and a goats paradise.
Harry left us in charge of all his animals  including his friendly farm dogs.
They eat meat every morning. And they love it!
The best thing on this amazing holiday, was spending lots of time with my family that I usually don't get to have.
It sure was a holiday to remember.

Should Matariki become a holiday?

Plus
Its like Christmas, so why not have days off?
The stars are special, if you want to see them you need a day off?
It's important, it's not random.
It's a tradition.
It's a family time to have with families.
If the English get to celebrate new year, so can Maori.
It's a special day for New Zealand.
Other countries have more holidays, we need to catch up.

Minus
It might make people get drunk and behave badly, like New Years.
It effects business.
People won't get paid that day.

Interesting
Why doesn't John Key want a holiday?
National may not be worried about it.
How many of our public holidays are Maori holidays?

Today we made sushi. It was easier than I thought and really rather tasty especially when it's dipped in some soy sauce. Today Keegan tried sushi for the very first time, and he had this to say, "It's really good!" Yay - good on you Keegs - for trying something new.

This is me doing my favourite activities:
a) having fun
b) having more fun
The first picture is me and my friends at my party this year having a great time playing a game where you have to eat the lolly snake ina race.
The other one is just recently when a few of my friends and I had a Harry Potter party. I dressed up as Snape, Kaitlyn as Hermione, Georgia as Luna Lovegood, Izzie as Professor Mcgonagall, Philip as Colin Creevey and Emma as Dumbledore.

Wow!! Look at that veiw. This was on the first Tuesday and Wednesdayof the holidays, when my family (Rowan Dad my cousins, Auntie and Uncle) and I went on a sailing trip round the Able Tasman. We were going to stay for two nights but the weather was too rough when Mum gave us a weather update over the phone (she wasn't there because she had to work.) The cutter is the big one on the left and the rescue boat is the miniscule one on the right. It was awesome because we saw eels and fish in the little lago
bit at the back of the campsite, and when we were on the boat we could stand on the side and hold on to the ropes while we leaned out ARRR me hearty's(we looked like pirates.)

BYE.

I spent some time in Wellington catching up with my 'baby', aka 'number one', aka Jared. We did lots of wandering around, shopping, chatting and ogling at the Colossal Squid at Te Papa. Certainly wouldn't want to come across one of those in the ocean!
I had my first ever experience at Starbucks - check out the size of that hot chocolate - yummmmmmmmmy!!

Summer Sports Tourney

Flying frisbees, wayward volleyballs and sizzling softball hits were the order of the day at the Motueka Summer Sports. In spite of the snow on the mountains bringing a super cold snap, the day turned out to be gorgeously sunny, and a lot of fun was had at this event for Year 7 and 8s.

My Tramping Trip

On Saturday, Me and my Dad went on a tramping trip together up Mt robert. It was a 2 hour trip nearly straight uphill, and Me being a really unfit person found it quite difficult.
We stayed in a hut called Bush Line hut which was one of the most flashiest hut I've ever stayed in.
The walk home was really interesting, because it was 1  1/2 hours trip, straight downhill.
It was really fun and great to go on an adventure with my Dad.
